Default Partnership visa application - will the medical issues be a show stopper??

Ok, we've had a few tales recently of how long it takes to get a partnership visa when there are no problems (approx 3 weeks in the last couple of cases - many congrats!).

Here's the "partnership visa with medical history issues" thread.

Day 1 - 07/12/09: the application finally goes in

Hubby submits application at NZ House, London and is told that all papers are in order. The nice folder wasn't necessary though (no staples, no plastic inserts, just one of these), so that's coming home. Apparently a plain manila envelope suffices, nothing more nothing less, but the contents page and covering letter were good

He was warned that an MA might be needed due to my (completed) treatment for thyroid cancer, and that they may need more info - this isn't a surprise! Hubby assures them that we have copies of all my medical records for the last few years ready and waiting. The info officer even talked hubby through how to get a medical waiver if necessary, bless him.

He also asked whether the application might be delayed by people going on holiday, but didn't get much of an answer, which is fair enough I suppose. No one likes to work over Xmas!

Computers were down at NZ House so payment wasn't processed, but he was told that a receipt/confirmation should come in the post in a few days.

Fingers, toes, ears and eyes are now crossed...

    Good luck!

I got a confirmation letter a few days later, and a CO assigned in a couple of weeks. The MA process was a pain (took almost a year of back and forth), in comparison, medical waiver was easier.

Gah! I hope mine doesn't take so long, obviously

Sounds dreadful that after all that toing and froing, the waiver went through quickly. What a waste of staff time, even if they were just following procedure!

    Hi Sophie

Good luck with your visa application!! fingers crossed it will be a smooth process for you.
I handed mine (partnership visa app) in on 1st Oct, had a phone call from C/O on 6th asking for more recent evidence ....directed him to my inventory of evidence...he found more than enough!, he told me he would be approving application, just had to get it signed off by Manager....10 days later (16th Oct) I recieved Approved in Principle letter. My passport with visa in was returned within a week of sending it in

Our flights are booked for 30th Jan ( less than 8 weeks) ....why is it that time seems to be disappearing fast??!! Must get organised!!

Hope you'll be celebrating with blue bananas soon!

    hi Sophie
Good luck with the application, i bet you feel relieved now its been put in, im sure you will be fine with the MA especially since you are going under the partnership visa, I got the feeling that they are very keen for Kiwis to head back home and the partnership visa seems to be a straight forward process ( from my experience)
keep us posted on any developments

My partnership application (NZ House, London) was approved after 3-4 weeks earlier this year (July).

In terms of medical conditions, I have controlled Epilepsy and they thankfully accepted a year old letter from my UK specialist as evidence that the condition is under control.
