You have my complete sympathy I spent the best part of $1800 on periodontist last year and am looking at $2500 to get my wisdom teeth extracted..... I was lucky with the periodontist who let me pay it up every week otherwise we couldn't have afforded it and I'm hopeful that oral surgeon will be the same. Local hospital do offer dental work but only if you are claiming a benefit it seems
Sorry not much help but maybe they can offer you some sort of payment plan...
Best of luck

Out of sheer curiosity, Karen- do you get all four extracted in one session with general anaesthesia?
It seems to be an awful lot of money!
I've only got 3 and yes have to see specialist to get extracted under a general because they are embedded or impacted or some such like thing
And yes $2500 is very expensive

That sounds like a lot - I don't think there is a set rate. Have you shopped around? I broke a tooth in my first week here, and think the whole treatment cost about $300. The dentist was a "cash on day of treatment", and offered a discount.
sounds expensive to me, I had a woman from Hong Kong staying and she had to have a root canal done, all up about 4 visits and she paid around $450!
I did my root canal 3 months ago, I got some quotes from dentist and I chose the cheapest one (South of Auckland). It cost me $750.
While my wife did her root canal when we were in Jordan with the cost of US$100 in a very well-known specialist
I used to have my cavities filled in Singapore for $20. And that's not per cavity filled but per visit. Tooth extraction (not wisdom teeth though) is also $20. A root canal job goes for under $100. Granted he's not a big-name specialist dentist and I'm not sure if I'll want him to do a root canal job for me if I needed one but he's the friendly neighbourhood dentist and usually have a 2-month waiting list.
I've made it a point to go to the dentist whenever I visit Singapore now.
A friend here recently had a bill for $300 to fill a cavity (or it may have been two cavities, but still...).
My OH had a tooth extracted for just $40 a couple of months ago, granted he was entitled to community services at the time, but i don't think that had a bearing on the price.
