    Default wanted, campsites

    Hi All
Next week Im going travelling to lake Tekapo, Cromwell, Arrowtown Quennstown and hopefully Dunedin.

    Can anybody reccommend campsites.

We dont really want to just stay in the top 10 campsites we would like to use smaller sites as well, have checked the internet and there are plenty to choose from.

    Any help would be welcome

    Cheers

We stayed in the Arrowtown Campsite just before xmas and it was quite nice, good modern facilities. We also had a night at the DOC campsite at 12 Mile Delta, just out of Queenstown, cheap, very scenic and right on the lake but almost no facilities and swarms of killer sandflies.

I stayed in the Leith valley camping ground in Dunedin last November and found it quite good. We stayed too close to the river and it was like a steam train going by all night. Some where in the middle of the camping ground between the river and the road would be fine.

I have the HEMA Motorhome & Camping Atlas South Island and find it very usefull for all camping grounds. Authors notes on some of the camping grounds is very usefull when picking a camp site.

You can camp at the (well around the edge of) Luggate cricket ground (!) which is just SE of Wanaka. It's super basic - you use the changing rooms - but it is also very cheap.
