    Question Fuel efficiency--km per litre??

Reading 72 and sunny's kilometerage thread spurred me to ask some questions I have been pondering:

I am glad you brought up the subject of "kilometerage"
Is this a word? Is it per litre of fuel?

Seriously, how the heck do you know if you get good gas "mileage" with km and litres?

Add to this mix that the UK uses a miles and gallons system that is different than the US miles and gallons system and I am just (and I have a maths degree!!)

    UK gallon is
    1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609188 litre

    US gallon is
    1 US gallon = 3.78541178 litre

My car only logs km and the gas pump tells me litres so do you do "kilometerage" ????? And what is a good kilometerage rate? LOL
Every time I try to figure this out --and then adjust to US mpg standards to understand it, I get terribly upset. Something is wrong!!

I notice that TradeMe advertisers avoid the entire subject with "goes a long way on fuel" or something else equally deficient in actual mathematical numbers!!!

Good starting point would be the FuelSaver website.

    litres per 100 km
    <6 is really good
    >12 is bad

plenty of conversion tools out there eg http://www.pege.org/fuel/convert.htm

(and the "kilometreage" on the other thread was about the odo reading)

This is a great conversion website for all sorts of things, I use it a lot! It's got conversions for various fuel comsumption rates.

Not sure if 'kilometerage' is a word but I think it should be

    Wow--this is where I get lost--that's backwards.
litres per 100 km? it's the opposite way around from the way I have been trained to think. And 100km?

The websites say I use 7 litres per 100 km but I don't think my car did that well? So confused.

So messy and not at all possible to easily flip back and forth with the mpg that I understand.

(I realized that he was using it differently but it is a word that I have been using myself in place of "mileage" --i really enjoy saying "kilometerage")

    1 miles/gallon(US) = 0.4251437 km/liter
    1 km/liter = 2.3521458 miles/gallon(US)

Sure wished I knew either one for my car and then I could convert it to the other.

Arrrghh--this is giving me a headache

I think I get around 30 mpg which is everything I was hoping for.

If anyone asks me, I shall respond--"it goes a long way on the fuel"

I think in "km per litre" instead of "litres per 100 km". Makes a lot more sense to me.

I like this site. It takes any one of the readings you know, and converts it into all the others. Great stuff.

see trying to convert it is where i get confused i found it far easier just to learn how this one works.
I talk to an american friend often and we always end up explaining the differences as in the long run it makes it way easier to understand than "translating" it everytime
