Setting up a PO Box

Hi from Laura and Hughie

We would appreciate advise on how to set up a PO box in Auckland New Zealand before arriving there to ensure our mail is re-directed from England. Is this possible?

No idea how you do it from afar - probably ask someone already here to do it for you.

It is easy and quick once you are here - you might want to put a hold for a few weeks on UK mail then have it redirected to the PO Box once you get here and set it up?

We emailed New Zealand Post and payed the fee (by credit card). They asked us which Post Shop we wanted the PO Box to be in and they reserved a box for us. We had 1 month from the reservation date to call into the Post Shop with all our identification docs.

By doing it this way we were able to put the NZ PO Box address on the Royal Mail relocation service paperwork before we left the UK and all our mail was sent across from the day we flew out.

In AKL you can also use the Post Restante at the Wellesley Street PO
think I stil have the postcode, will have a look for it
(walk through PO to private boxes and ask at the counter)

they keep your post for upto 3 months (parcels less time)
no charge
have to prove ID when you go to collect anything
can forward post but there is a charge

so people can send your mail there and you collect it
