    Default Tramping in the Ruahines

I just got back from a tramp in the Ruahines with some friends and I thought some of the pictures would be of interest to people. We were in the Manawatu-Wanganui region.

Where did you guys go specifically on your tramp. The last one we did was the Maharahara Track which is one of the closer ones to Palmy. Pretty rough and overgrown so I do not recommend it.

Hrm, We were with an experienced tramper who's in search and rescue, he planned it all so I'm sure he knew what he was doing. Let me see if I can find a map.

There were some steep parts and some places were the track was only about a foot's width wide, but I was fine and it was my first tramp (though I'm in good fitness). Plus there were DOC workers there working on the trail.

There was also knee high river crossings so if you don't like wet boots it's not a good tramp for you.

Have you done the gorge track?
