I've just logged on from the US website and it says there's a NZ$50 joining fee here unless you've travelled in Business and can then claim complimentary membership.

I don't know if the offer is only valid in NZ or worldwide. The offer was promoted on the @flyairnz Twitter feed.

I traveled on Air NZ last fall in Business Class using Star Alliance miles and was able to sign up for free (though I did not accrue any miles for that trip), but only to Jade class.

Yep, free for Business class fliers, and also for UK residents for some reasons (I assume for compatibility with other Star Alliance partners).

Bit annoyed I didn't join before our recce, with two business class returns from London.... Doh.

    Hi,

The APFRIEND promo code is for NZ residents only, when it usually costs NZ$50 to join.

UK residents have been able to join for free since February 2008, no promo code needed. You just need to tick the correct boxes and make sure you're on the UK Air NZ website.

If you flew with Air NZ prior to joining, you can only claim airpoints for flights you took within the last 30 days of joining Airpoints, that's what the 30 day rule if referring to.

    Jen
