Default Well it looks like im moving to Chirstchurch....

Been offerd a job there and I am on the move.....

Ill be working near the airport and have no idea where to start looking for houses?

Its hard to judge from google maps how "long" its going to take me to get to work from certain areas.

Im horsey so would like somewhere semi-rural at least - but I hate long commutes.

Anyone know Chch and know where would be good to live?

    Hiya

One thing you will learn in CHCH nothing is far from anywhere LOL

We live in the City and it takes 15 mins to the airport.

Do you have kids and need to worry about schools?

You have the same name as me...another George!

Yes I have an 8 YO son. He will be staying here for the first month until I settle in a bit. And I do really want a great school, and before/after schoolcare (pref on site?), and good sports/activities program. Its a big ask I know.

    Someone mentioned Merivale?

I work near the airport, and live in Kaiapoi. It's about 15 -20 mins by car, or 45 by bike!

Loads of places are going to be pretty convenient for you .. depends on how much commute you want?

    Hiya to another G

Merivale is very nice, pricey though and if you wanted to keep a horse you wouldn't do so there

So semi rural and not too long to commute ummmm

    Marshland
    Yaldhurst
    Kaiapoi
    Bishopdale
    Halswell
    Hoon Hay
    Cashmere

We live in St Albans but like Merivale not rural, it's bang in the City!

    Hope this helps a little.

Im happy to commute again to horses from home - but again 15 mins tops pref!

    Which has the best schools?

It took us 15 mins to go about a mile getting out the city whilst we were there, not counting getting lost in the awful one way system, this was rush hour, well 4.30

Most of the schools are pretty good - some are better than others, but so long as you live in a reasonable area there shouldn't be a problem.

Burnside high school has a good reputation - probably one of the best - which is just around the corner from the airport. I'm unaware of any other "good" or "bad" schools,

Most things are 15 mins tops from the CBD as we do not suffer with rush hour, I get home under 10 mins
