    Default Singapore Stopover

I have finally booked the tickets - many thanks for all the posts about ringing up and asking about increased baggage allowance - now have 40 kg per person (hurrah).

I feel slightly overwhelmed at the amount of decisions to be made and thought I would ask you wise folk for guidance..................we (me, OH, DD 8yrs, DD 5yrs, DB 4yrs) are stopping in Singapore for 36 hrs and want to book a hotel that will offer decent rooms, pool and not too expensive food - any suggestions.

Also what is best to do with the kids.......youngest is boisterous, think excitable puppy, he will have just turned 4, so shopping & museums (unless v. child friendly) are not good options.

    thanks for thoughts.

    Try Sentosa Island for entertainment:

I think you can stay there aswell.

There's also Singapore Zoo, which is very good.

Singapore is very small country and you can probably go around whole of country in 48 hours. I'd recommend taking kids to Science/Discovery center, Singapore Zoo (I'm sure kids will love this remarkable place), Sentosa & Universal studios that has recently come up. It's one of the best & safest place, so rest assured you will love your stay.

And yeah...Orchard/Somerset road [Wisma Atria, Orchard Central, Singapura Plaza, Lucky Plaza, for shopping] is good place for some shopping & you can go to Bugis junction (suggest without kids, at they might not like the hot & humid climate) to buy cheap t-shirts.

    Just few quick suggestions.

    Thanks Suniel and Norma

That is where we are intending stopping for 3 days or so on our way over next month so all suggestions are great. I think that the boys will love the science centre.

I also would recommend the zoo. We had a 24 hour stopover with 4 and 2 year olds. We went to the night safari (at the zoo) which was great and as we timed it so the children had been asleep on the plane to Singapore it was fine keeping them up.

I don't know if they still have the night safari but that was good.

Thank you that is fab - think that the zoo is probably going to be the one. Off to London zoo next week, they can compare and contrast! Thanks

Oh yeah, if you guys fancy night safari, Singapore Zoo is best in the world. Again, don't forget to wear cotton clothes as humidity might just drain you down. This is something adults and kids enjoy equally with some shows organized towards evening. Siloso beach will be a good place which can be visited together with Sentosa (just other side of same piece of island) & riverside at Raffles has some good restaurants for wine & dine. One thing I loved was the variety & quality of food. I'm just rushing out but will drop a detailed plan for 2-3 days visit.

There's been quite a lot of useful info on Singapore stopovers/holiday.......a few too many threads to list. But if you've got a while search for 'Changi' and 'Sentosa' on the forum and that should bring up lots of great info.

It seems like the place we stayed is having a facelift, but it was very family friendly:

And Sentosa Island in particular is very easy with a young family:

    www.sentosa.com.sg

In addition to the existing hotels and attractions on Sentosa, there is now Resort World too:

    Cheers

    More details as promised:

    Day 1 (Adults with Kids):
    Discovery Science Center (2-3 hrs)
    Jurong Bird Park (2-3 hrs)
Singapore Zoo + Night Safari (3-4 hrs)

    Day 2 (Almost everyone):
    Shopping

    Tangs Shopping Center (almost everything)
    Wisma Atria (almost everything)
    Lucky Plaza (cheap deals/electronics)
    Ion Orchard (almost everything)
    Chijmes (food/wine)
    CenterPoint (almost everything)
    Plaza Singapura (almost everything)
Raffles Square/Riverside (shopping, Dine & Wine, ideal for dinner)

Try Sim Lim Square if you wish to buy any electronics stuff, you can get some good bargains.

Avoid Little India on weekends to maintain sanity

Universal Studios is definitely worth squeezing into places to visit

    Day 3 (Adults with/without kids):
    Some beach fun

    Sentosa & Siloso Beach
    Mega Zip Adventure Park
    Underwater World & Dolphin Lagoon
Vivocity (it has some good shopping, restaurants & views)

I stayed at Siloso beach restaurant for a week before relocating, it was quite cheap compared to hotels in city, pleasant view, plenty of walks near beach & just about 5 mins journey to Vivocity.

Three must have been some good new places that came up within past couple of years like Universal Studio, Casinos. From what I have heard, these are just amazing places.

**Don't forget to put lots of suntan lotion, otherwise you might find it difficult to convince airport authorities in NZ, that you are indeed the same person on passport
