Default EOI - Skilled occupation points?

Hi all - this is my first post here, no doubt of many!

My wife (our likely principal applicant) has many years experience as a Primary School teacher (she’s currently a Primary Numeracy Consultant in School Improvement), this seems to be in section A of the recognized skilled occupations list, but not on the LTSSL. Does this mean she could claim points on the EOI if she had a job offer or not?

Also, how likely is she to be able to get a job offer as a teacher from over here? She will not emigrate without a firm job offer, fair enough as we have small children to support. It also looks like we’d need a job offer to be even able to put in an EOI ?

We're both English and Batchelor degree educated at UK universities, so I think get some points for that.

My occupation - financial services compliance officer isnt recognised at all.

Not sure if you can help with these questions, but if you can, it might get us off the ground at least.

    Thanks!

    Hello and welcome.

We have several teachers among the membership, so I'm sure you'll get some comments soon. I do know that she will need to register with the NZ teachers' council, and it can be a quite long process, so you might like to start looking into that straight away. http://www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz/os/

    Hi,

I have been fighting with a similar issue. Went over the manual many many times, found some conflicts (or lets say, stuff that makes you think you don't qualify).

Here is a what I found out:
Your bachelor would give you 50 points.
Your wife bachelor would give you 20 points
Age should give you some points as well.
If you got 6 years of experience you would get 20 point: as stated here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/i6268.htm

and for recognition of your experience I think (and according to ) http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/i6268.htm you can easily fit in a.iii and b

Now the issue would be the bonus for work experience, which is tricky, do you hold any internal auditor certificate? being a compliance officer you will need some kind of certificate.
If you have closer look at the manual and all exceptions and (stuff to consider), you might notice that to qualify for bonus you don't need to have qualification in the field to qualify for its experience. Anyway, I e-mailed them about that 2 days ago. Will post back when(if) I get a reply.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks both for my first replies.

I read that she'll need to get registered with the teachers council, is it also the case that a BEd degree needs assessing by the NZQA or is treated as an exempt qualification under its classification as a bachelors degree?

Also, it was more whether if we did manage to get a job offer for her at a school from over here without an EOI already in place (that catch 22), as Primary School Teacher is not on the LTSSL, can we claim the 50 points for 'offer of skilled employment'?

If neither of our jobs are on the LTSSL, can we even apply for PR through a skilled migrant visa, or do we have to go for WTR?

    Ta.

Look here http://www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz/o...gtchingjob.stm (and the links) on the teachers' council website, which will answer more of your questions. Other detail I'm sure teachers who have already gone through this will tell you.

gortsmit, you're likely to get more replies, and from NZ teachers, once NZ wakes up and comes online.

Here's NZIS on the subject of the ISSL. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/templ...ACHEHINT=Guest
And here's an old thread with some UK teachers talking about making the move. http://www.enz.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-15360.html
