hello all,


the oh and i are contemplating taking a couple of weeks prior to starting our new job in mid january and travelling by train from taupo's nearest train station to wellington, crossing the straits, and proceeding down to cc and then up and over to greymouth.


any thoughts or recommendations on this plan, given the time of year (mid-december).

Book well in advance as holiday season starts about then!


Only recently we used the TranzAlpine.


It is nice but also long: 4.5 hrs one way. I strongly recommend not doing the return on one way.


West Coast is worth spending some more time over there. We did so occasionally.
