Default Bed sizes same as UK or US?

Are NZ bed sizes the same as the UK or US? Just wondering whether to try and procure a new mattress here!

Closest to the US for most sizes but with some differences:

We brought over a UK King Sized iron bed and didnt measure it before going to Harvey Norman to buy a new mattress. Ordered a NZ King Sized mattress for it and found when it arrived that its about 3 inches wider and a tight fit on the length. So in answer to your question........ NZ beds are bigger than UK ones even though they talk Double, Queen, King and Super King

The sizes are the same, the names are different - so UK king = NZ queen (we have a NZ queen bed that we took to the UK, bought a UK king mattress, and then shipped back to NZ and it fits perfectly). I believe that NZ King is between UK king (=NZ queen) and UK super king (=NZ super king). So you would have been OK with a NZ queen mattress. Doubles and singles are the same.

We have a local bed shop that will make mattresses to any size you like and they cost about the same as the next standard size up (so we want a four foot wide double mattress for an antique bed we have, not a standard size in NZ, and they say it will be the same price as a normal double)

Mattresses are shockingly expensive here compared to US prices.
We are really glad we brought our new mattress with us.

There is a large second hand market for mattresses here. Gross.

Here are the equivalent names and measurements for UK and NZ beds (and bedding, though Kiwis call this 'manchester'). You'll see there are some equivalents, so some of your things may be transferrable.

NZ Name -- Imperial -------- Metric ------ UK equivalent
    Single --- 30 x 62 ---- 92 x 188 cm --- Single

    Single Extra Long-30 x 68--92 x 203 cm - (-)

    King Single - 36 x 68 -- 107 x 203 cm -- (-)

    Double --- 4'6" x 62 --- 138 x 188 cm --- Double

    Queen ---- 50 x 68 --- 153 x 203 cm --- King

    King ------ 56 x 68 ---- 167 x 203 cm -- (-)

    Super King or 6ft King - 60 x 68 - 183 x 203 cm - Super King
