Back in the states we were big fans of Netflix.
I have recently discovered that there is a NZ version of this service here called Fatso.

Has anyone used this? If so, what are your opinions of it?

We use Fatso, just like netflix. No complains.
We got a 6 month free trial from either sky, telecom, or the power company...I can't remember which.
It seemed very expensive to me (relative to the video store, which is only mildly expensive); videos take a long time to go back and forth (I frequently got next day service with Netflix, Fatso is more like next week); and videos do not arrive at anything close to the order on your list (if something is out of stock, the next available is sent...which was frequently the 9th movie down). Other than that, it was worth using for the free 6 months.
I thought Netflix was streaming and fatso uses the mail?
Netflix is moving toward streaming and has that service wither via PC or (if you buy a hardware box [i don't recall the name]) on your TV.
They still do disks via mail. That's what we use.
Any Redbox (dvd vending machine for $1) in NZ?
We had cable and netflix and cancelled them in favor of $1 rentals from the redbox.
there is a sort of kiosk video rental place near us. like a cross between redbox and a store.
they have computers where you select the videos--and you can watch the trailer if you want.
but then a person hands you the video and you pay them. Rentals are $5 on weeknights but more on weekends--but they have a 2 for $10 special on weekends--so still $5.
New release rentals are $9 at Blockbuster
Maybe is because we are in Wellington, but we don't have any time issues with them. 1 or 2 days wait between posting and getting new DVDs.
