    Default Roadkill ???

This probably sounds really stupid but I can't find a website that can give me definitive answers.

Whilst travelling on the roads in various parts of NZ I see unfortunate animal victims of cars. Now, the question is - what are they all? I can't seem to identify what on earth is lying about (and not only because some of them are a bit squashed). Are there foxes in New Zealand because I was sure I saw one? Any beavers? If these aren't what I see, what are they?

Any suggestions for a good website to identify animals around and about?

There's also these guys (Stoats): http://www.wildaboutnz.co.nz/index.p...tent&Itemid=41

I can't find a good site to ID introduced species though...

Most of the roadkill you'll see out there will be possums - many kiwis will swerve to hit them if possible (especially if driving a truck / ute)!

Possums and magpies (who get hit whilst snacking on possum pancakes).

Agreed - I've seen loads of possums around Auckland and in Northland.

How about wallabies? We have a big pest population here (although I think they are cute). I've seen a few dead ones but also a few live ones in the redwoods forest.

Also for roadkill: pukeko, hawks, seagullls, I saw a dead ferret up Paradise Valley once and of course the damned possum (they come in different colours, mostly brown but also a gingerish red).

There are colonies of wallabies living wild in Yorkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Suffolk, UK. Even KNOWING this, I think it'd make me do a double-take if one bounced across my line of vision as I was driving through.
