Maybe this is fine, but just got a bit of a scare Might be worth me totalling up what we are sending to see if it actually comes to £45,000!

they should offer you a fixed price policy where you determine the value. remember to do a bit of research as its the nz price to replace then convert back to pounds for items. we found a lot of our stuff we wouldnt replace anyway so didnt insure. haggle hard, i think we got something like 1.3% in the end as the insurance market is fiercely competitive and where the money is for them.
You can also use a third party insurer. I cant remember the name but do a search on here as there is one insurer that gets good reviews.

We used Lloyds of London who were way cheaper by miles than others we had quotes from. It was ten years ago though so things may have changed

We are using Letton Percival instead of our shippers (PSS) - much cheaper and v easy to deal with so far, via email

Thanks everyone, have just submitted a quote to letton percival so finger crossed. Also have done a list of furniture and realised that our furniture certainly does not total the amount on the insurance. I will go back to pickfords and ask them to requote the lower amount and see what they come back with.

The only way to know what your stuff is worth is to do a real detailed list. An Ikea bookcase is likely to cost significantly less than all the books on it. It's easy to overlook stuff like that. Spend the time working out what cover you need so you're not over or under insured. But do get insurance. Probability is in your favour but containers do fall off the side of boats.

It worked for me SC, Pickfords came back with a much improved quote when they thought I was going to take the insurance elsewhere.
