Doing things the opposite way round - being in the UK with family in NZ - we deal with certain companies there via their websites. You choose and order what you want, pay by credit card, and they pack and send it. (For my d-i-l, I have found a firm which will issue her a voucher so she can go and choose what she'd like from the range of specialist art supplies.) This saves the hassle of thinking you can only send light things, or pay through the nose for posting.

The cheaper greenstone pendants make nice presents but try getting the ones with a brief discription of the meaning of the symbol, like safe travel etc etc and when posting, in discription write costume jewellery and you should be ok

In Take Note (and I spotted in the Redwoods Visitor Centre too) you can get something called Kiwi Can Fly. It's like origami but with aluminium. Comes in a small flat pack ready to post and you can get kiwi, sheep, fantail, tuatara and pukeko. I bought four different ones to send to my family. It's something they can make themselves. They're about $15 each.

I also send calendars as they are also easy to package up. If I send a box I usually pad it out with pineapple lumps, milk bottles, jet planes etc.

    Hope this helps.

    This whole thread is

so everyone goes through the "kiwiana to the home country" stage??

My friends and family have Kiwi flags, shirts, necklaces, socks, pens, key chains, calendars....

You name it, if it has a Maori design or a Kiwi flag or an outline of the country on it--they have gotten it!!

Duncan's post just made me think of something. What do the people you are sending to collect/like? We collect brewania (I think that is what it is called). Basically, my OH loves anything to do with beer from around the world. We collect glasses and pub mats or bottle openers. I love tap handles.
So think of something like that for them. Whatever their interests are and if you want to stick with the Kiwi them, then make sure it is NZ specific. ie: in our case for example, NZ beer stuff.

I'm sending some DVDs (Sione's wedding, Boy etc) for a film buff friend, CDs (Gin Whigmore, Shihad) for my sis, some possum/merino knitting wool, a Kiwi cookbook for a friend who loves to cook, a ta moko -inspired t-shirt for my brother (he plays guitar in a heavy metal band, so that's a good gig t-shirt as it's very rock'n roll), kiwi bird shaped cookie cutters for my cousin who collects cookie cutters, some locally made cosmetics etc. The most obvious Kiwiana items are some calendars I'm sending to my aunts.

Thanks guys for all your ideas, as I said Ive done all the kiwiana stuff as Grumpy Goat mentioned, they have enough and are tired of it by now I'm sure.
I have got my Bank accounts still in the UK so I like the idea of surfing the net and finding a company that I can purchase from that includes postage.
Saves a bit of postage from this end!
I use Moon Pig for cards and they have mugs, T shirts. But Ive done that too. So I'll get surfing.....
I dont get on here much these days but I have enjoyed a catch up reading through many threads. Incase its a whil again is it too early to say have a great time at xmas? merry xmas everyone x
