We were only charged just over $700 for 46 boxes. But we could not have replaced all that we had brought for that!!! And there was a lot of outdoor stuff...tents, bikes, trampoline, garden stuff etc.

Ours are about 100 boxes, 1 queen size bed with matress, 2 single matresses, 1 Dining table, 1 large indonesian bench with centre table & 10 rustic wooden artifacts (buddha etc). Sounds like its been reasonable charge.

So, when did your container ship arrive and do you have your stuff already? Just trying to get an idea on waiting times. "My" ship arrived in Auckland 4 weeks ago and my stuff is still at customs.

4 weeks seems a bit long I was told by NZ van lines that the longest it takes to clear is 7-10 working days. The removal companies have to move off the port quickly I would chase it if I was you are you sure your boat has not been delayed?

Our container arrived on 31st and we were told that it'd take about 10 working days to clear it. MAF inspected half of our items on one day and rest of them on another day, which means the local shipping company was told to take the container and return back on following day's appointment (I was told this by Allied).

4 Weeks is a long time, do check what's going on.

Yup yup yup!!! Will squeeze in some savings by then . Our contact person at Allied seems to have walked past feather items and rang us, he told that they were not that good in a shape to get fumigated & treated...so just $190 in all. Just waiting for tomorrow, to see our belongings after 2 long years !!

That really is way too long. What port did your stuff come into? They want the ports cleared ASAP since the companies are charged storage for the containers. Ours came into Tauranga and they said 7-10 days and it cleared is some rediculously fast time like 3 days. Space is money and they want those containers out of there.

Very useful information! A quick question: how did you get that clearance from MAF without any inspection?
So, yes, you can phone MAF with your container number and find out exactly what they are going to be charging. We just got the number from the MAF website.
Perhaps another dumb question: how can I find out exactly what they are charging? Can I send them a full inventory list and they will tell me what items want to see?

    Many thanks.

    Many thanks.

Today I got call from local shipping agency (sevenseas) that our things from UK will be delivered on Friday!!
Our container arrived last Friday & I made the payment of about 200 NZD for customs clearance on monday..I don't remember anyone asking about MAF since dispatching all the things back in UK where we had to fill up customs & MAF declaration forms. Maybe they just screen checked and found nothing worth opening the boxes.
