    Default Falling pregnant after medical

Shock horror - I've just found out that I'm unexpectedly pregnant! While this is happy news - the timing isn't quite right - I got my PR through the partnership category approved 2 months ago and our flights are booked for the end of Jan.

Do I need to inform NZ immigration of my change of medical circumstances before I go?

What's the deal with medical - is there a reciprical agreement with the UK or will I have to pay for maternity care in NZ?

I'm assuming that I won't be entitled to any maternity pay since I won't have been in employment in NZ for the 6 month minimum?

Finally - I'm assuming being pregnant will make me virtually unemployable?

Talk about best laid planss and all that....

    Congrats on the baby!!!

Sounds like the timing is actually working out pretty well for you! No, you don't need to inform immigration--they already gave you PR! You are covered for your pregnancy so don't worry.

There is another thread right now discussing costs (none!) and options. http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread....light=pregnant

Getting a job may be a bit of a challenge but you never know!!

    Good luck!!

Congrats! As for your question as to maternity pay, my kiwi friend said you have to be employed 6 months before you become pregnant to qualify for the paid leave and them holding your job for you.

I think it's more like you have to be working for the same company for six months before you intend to start maternity leave. The govt pays 14 weeks maternity pay (capped at just over $400 a week). The rest is unpaid.

    Here's a link - and congratulations.

The timing is never right, but babies are a blessing. Congratulations.
