Can anyone tell me how someone stands with medical care in NZ when you have PR.

I have been told that you dont get assisted (like a kiwi) medical care for two years -

however I think you do (as my husband needed A&E within the first 12 months -

had a MRI and not charged anything as a Resident).

Can anyone clarify or tell me where the misunderstanding might be?

You have to have a 2 year work permit or longer (which includes PR) to qualify for medical coverage.

If you are on a 1 year permit, you did not get a medical exam and do not get medical cover.

    Hope that clears it up!

My understanding is that the receipt of benefits related to sickness and injury are not guaranteed until after 2 years of being in NZ.

That may be where some of the confusion arises.
