Google maps is an excellent satellite and street mapping system, and until now it was centered on the US. This week worldwide maps where launched, and it includes NZ with many zones in higher resolution.
This is an overview of NZ:

Click and drag to move, use zoom controls to zoom in or out. Most zones are (still) not in higher resolution, but Auckland partly is (a large part is not...):

Wellington is not:

Curiously, large areas of the north of south island are:

While ChCh is also not:

Etc... you can recognize higher res parts by their darker color.
There is no street information. This is now available in the US, Canada, UK and other parts of Europe, and should eventually come to NZ (it is great for planning trips, etc). With time they will also continue to add higher resolution sections - which, as you'll see, lower resolution is nice but almost worthless, while highest resolution is very, very nice.
Enjoy,

ps. In this picture, you can see my current house near Barcelona, Spain - on my garden you can see me taking the sun and smiling to the camera![]()
