Adding Countdown (countdown.co.nz), Warehouse (thewarehouse.co.nz) and Pak & Save (www.paknsave.co.nz) to the list.

This is the big department store Farmers.co.nz
I know the name is silly but it is a real department store
They have good sales (look on salefinder.co.nz)

Another place to buy clothes that is relatively inexpensive (and they sell school uniforms too) is Postie Plus

With all these prices be careful of working out what it would cost to buy what you do in your home country. You won't buy the same things, or if you did then it would be pricey. For example an american living in the Uk could go to selfridges to buy all the hershey bars, and only drink bud, etc but that is clearly going to be more expensive than buying Uk food. Same in NZ, then we have found we are spending similar to the Uk, but different foods. Less cheese, less quorn / meat substitute, more fresh fruit and veg. Now being fair then we used to spend £100 per week on average for the two of us, and we're up at about $200 a week over here including cleaning / toiletries, so I'm not claiming this to be the economy end of the scale.

As for non food prices, then note that everything is always on sale here. Typically then 25-30% off at Farmers, Briscoes, Rebel Sports, Harvey Norman, etc. I think I've been in one of those shops once in the last 7 months and there wasn't a sale on, so I waited until teh next day for 40% off on the water jug. And in the electrical shops then prices are by negotiation. Harvey Norman had a shaver for $799 that I talked to $575 and that wasn't supposed to be on offer at all.
