    Smile moving to wellington

    hello everyone,

    we have just had great news and received our PR visa's last week, we are hoping to move to wellington area. We are looking at areas to rent, our priorities are;

    Find a good high school for 14 year old dtr
    Find a good full primary for 9 year old son
    Commuting distance to wellington kept to a minimum as this is what we want to get away from - but on a tight budget initially so will probably have to live 'further out' due to higher cost of renting nearer the City

    Quite like the look of Tawa college or our dtr, and would like to live near the coast, perhaps whitby, possibly send our son to adventure or discovery primary - anyone have any suggestions of other places - family friendly, nice community feel, good schools, commutable, either on the coast or within short distance. I have been told to avoid porirua city itself -all suggestions gratefully received.

    Due to the popularity of Tawa College, they have a strict enrolment zone policy which does not include Whitby. So it may be difficult to enrol your daughter there if you live near Whitby.

    Another area you may consider is the southern part of the Hutt Valley with suburbs like Korokoro, Maungaraki or possibly Petone & Alicetown. Prices are in a similar range to Tatwa/Whitby and good properties usually sell/rent quickly. The train from Petone station to Wellington CBD is about 15 minutes (similar to the travel time from Tawa to the CBD).

    There have been recent discussions on Wellington suburbs in the forum archive that may also be helpful.

    Hello & welcome
    You might want to have a drive round to check all the areas out. I love Tawa as it does have a community feel to it & all the shops you need in the high street.
