    Default Question re: Police Checks

We're in the process of putting in our Application and need clarification regarding Police Checks. I am a Canadian Citizen and have lived here for the last 30 years. I was born in the UK and left there at the age of 11, having returned once for a vacation in 1991. Do I need to get a UK police check done as well as the Canadian one? I only carry a Canadian passport.
If anyone can help clarify, it would be appreciated.
I'm also going to email INZ .. will post their response once I recieve it.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
this is from INZ Self assessment guide:

You and any family members included in your
application must be of good character, whatever
the category. To prove that, you and everyone in
your family who is 17 years of age and older needs
    to provide police certificates from:

    • your country of citizenship (unless you can
provide satisfactory evidence to an immigration
officer that a police certificate is either not
available or is unduly difficult to obtain); and

    • any country you have been in for 12 months or
more in the last 10 years, whether in one visit
    or more.

As a police certificate from the uk is a doddle to apply for then you're going to need to cough up your £35 (or there abouts).

    As auoted above:

You will need UK Police clerance only if you have stayed 12 months(all travels combined ) in UK in last 10 years. From your post I do not think you will need UK PCC, if it is required INZ will notify you and then you can arrange for it.

As others have said, you'll need the UK police check too.

(I've never lived in France at all, but because I had citizenship it was easier to just get the police check rather than attempting convince INZ it was pointless..)

    Thanks, everyone, for your replies.
I had contacted INZ and just heard back from them... and, indeed, I do need to get a police check from the UK, since I hold citizenship there.

Yup I had to do this for my children too. One was only 9 when she left Germany but nevertheless we needed to go to the trouble of a police certificate...this despite she could not possibly have had a police record!

    Thumbs down

What is sad is that I can send off for the UK certificate tomorrow and have it back to me within the week. I have to wait up to 8 weeks for my Canadian certificate...
