Default What do you use for an IRD number on a bank acct application?

Hubby and I are planning on opening an account in NZ from overseas and then picking up cards etc when we arrive there on vacation in March.

I have a friend's address in NZ to use (with her blessing) but not sure what to put for IRD number.

Do you just leave it blank?

    Thanks.

Yep, you can leave it blank; that way you'll pay the highest rate.

When you do have an IRD number, you let the bank know.

We did it the same way

Yeah same with my bank account. The clerk said it was irrelevant for setting up a basic chequing account, the ird number only affected the rates for savings accounts (ASB)

Apologies if everyone knows this already, but if you start working as soon as you get here you need to get an IRD# ASAP,

else your employer will have to deduct tax at the "no notification" rate (45%).

Applying at the Post Shop or wherever, getting your number takes 8-10 working days,

but if you apply at AA and pay $10 for expedited handling, you'll have it in 48 hours.
