Just thought I'd do an update: no word on the original job. As far as we know it hasn't even been officially advertised yet so things seem to be moving pretty slowly there. However OH had a telephone interview for another job this evening that went really well and they are arranging a skype interview to follow on in a few weeks time. Money and timelines were discussed so while it's not a done deal at least we are getting a positive response to the job hunting generally.

Great news - how have you found most success? Direct applications or agencies?

We are lucky as OH has a friend (and ex employee of his) who is networking on our behalf so that has been a massive help. I think people trust his application that much more because of this. He has also applied for a fair few things through Seek and not got any response at all but he did get an agency who are interested, despite him being in the UK at the moment. His experience (some of it at least) is quite specialised and high level so what they were saying is there isn't much but if a position did come up they would put him forward. I think it depends on sectors really and your own experience as to how keen people would be. The organisation that he has just had the interview for is used to recruiting from overseas and though they like people having NZ experience they also value overseas experience and that really helps too - another organisation might look on OH as too much of a risk or not even consider him until he gets to NZ.

To be honest, I had actually resigned myself to us not getting job offers from overseas and for OH to go over on a reccie and because of this we had altered our expectations of when we would be able to move so now I am in a mild panic that it would potentially mean moving in three months time!
