Ashburton or Timaru

Hi

Because of delays in moving I have lost my job in Napier but have been offered an alternative in Ashburton Canterbury

Got to admit that on first viewing of the info about it the juices are hardly flowing

Seems to be very quiet

Any 1st hand views on this area would be appreciated

Further to my request about Ashburton Ive received another alternative in Timaru which seems more interesting

I know Ashburton only from passing through, which does not make the most imperssions on me- but, usually the nicer part of the towns is somewhere off the main road.
I am sure someone who lives in Ashburton will have a completely different view, but I have not seen any mention here in the forum....

Timaru- in my opinion a very nice town, they did a lot to upgrade their beachside, it is close to the mountains, too, so if you like skiing in the winter, it would be a big advantage.
My husband worked in Timaru for about one year and loved it, people are very friendly and welcoming, I think.
Again- from passing through on StateHW1 I would never have thought it is such a nice place.......

What are you interested in? What are your needs?

I have lived neither in Ashburton nor in Timaru; spent in both towns the occasional night whilst on a trip.
Personally I favour Timaru over Ashburton as well; it is more independent, larger and on the coast.
Ashburton though has more to offer I think than one might expect from just staying on SH1. Mt Hutt is not far for skiing; and Christchurch neither of course.

Never stopped there but have been to Methven a few times which is just north of there. Good golf course there too
