Default Howto prepare move to Wellington

    Hi all,

preparing to make the move in July, Visa is in the mail :-)

Anyone having any tips on setting up accommodation before arrival?
Or is the most realistic option to set up shop in a hostel/hotel and start looking from there?
Anything I can bring/arrange that would make search for a rental easier?

    TIA!

    Mike

    Hello and welcome.

I think most people would recommend taking a strictly temporary base to start with, and waiting till you're on the ground to get a personal feel for neighbourhoods before you go for anything longer-term.

    Hi Mike and welcome

I think hotel/motel is easiest for phase one (just to save you hassle of shopping and cooking until you find your feet/recover/adjust), followed by a serviced apartment in phase two (more space, more independence feels more like you live in NZ rather than being on holiday) all in around Wellington central (such a great city that feels like a town and you can walk everywhere so no need for a car) - and during this period you can look for what you want the area you'd like to live in etc. How long you spend in each phase is up to you. I'd suggest a week or two in a hotel, followed by a month or so in a central apartment.

    for hotels:
Hotels.com expedia.com often have some deals

for central serviced apartments questa have a good range:

    for rentals:

    best of luck

    Default Thanks for the tips!

Didn't know about the serviced apartments, not exactly cheap but something to consider depending on the circumstances.

    Cheers
