    Default Registering as a teacher

Hi all. My wife and I have our blue stickers thanks to my job in IT, but she wants to register to teach in New Zealand. Does anyone here have experience of what is required? There seem to be a few hoops to jump through and I'm not sure where we start.

She has a Primary PGCE in the UK so she is fully qualified. We will be arriving in Auckland in September so we'd like to get this sorted ASAP.

Haven't time to hunt the link now, but if you Search past threads on here, and/or the NZTC website, the details are all there.

You need to look at the website for NZQA and fill in the papers to get your wife's degree recognised according to the NZ system. At the same time you fill in the papers for NZQA, you also need to register yourself (your wife I mean) with the New Zealand Teaching Council. When NZQA is done evaluating your wife's papers they will send their decision to the Teaching Council and the Teaching Council will finish their evaluation, but it's good to start both processes at the same time since NZQA has about 30 days and in the Teaching Councils case 4-8 weeks before sending you back your papers.

You need to provide lots of documents which is stated on the NZQA's homepage (passport, qualifications, proof of work experience, birth certificate). Hope this helps a bit.

    Hi,

Your OH will need to get registered with the teachers council - link below:
    http://www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz/

To do this though, she will need to have her PGCE assessed by the NZQA to ensure it meets their requirements and is recognised as an NZ equivalent qualification - link below:
    http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/

If she wants to have a look at the curriculum and other resources - the link below will take her to all that - some good stuff on there -
    http://nzcurriculum.tki.org.nz/

If she would like to have a look at salary scales etc - then the primary teachers collective agreement has all that detail - it's essentially the contract that all primary teachers work under - link below:
    http://www.minedu.govt.nz/~/media/Mi...nt20102012.pdf

When we started the process for my OH, we started gathering documents in October and received the confirmation of registration on Christmas eve last year - so your looking at a couple of months of work I'd say including gathering and processing.

    Good luck with it all.

Thank you for all the info gorstsmit.

My wife's been doing the NZQA thing online, but it's a bit confusing. I hope somebody who's been through this could help as I can't find a thread answering these questions:

Do you need to supply a copy of your A Levels as a "school leaving certificate"?

Do you need to supply work references if you have a PGCE or is that only if you're applying on the basis that your work experience is equivalent to a qualification?

Will NZTC accept the police certificate we used for immigration or do they need a different one?
