Default When/Why is an MA referred?

It has been three months since we have posted our ITA.
Our medicals were all OK except for a little problem with my triglyceride level.
It was a bit on the upper side but not in high risk region.
Doc asked to do the tests again with some fasting, but still it didn't improve much. Finally, my doc gave a green signal but asked me to get it lowered by diet control and exercise.
I hear people being referred to MA in this forum. I wish have some opinions in my case. Will I be referred? If I get referred, at what stage of application process will it be in? After of before CO assignment? Will my medical expire after 6 months if I am not assigned a CO within 6 months?
What do the MAs ask for? What will be the time limit given to me to do a recheck?
    Thanks in advance.

If the report given by the doctor who did your medical shows your health as not being completely within the guidelines set by INZ (see Section A4.10 here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/), then the CO will refer that medical to an MA (medical assessor). This is because the COs are not medical experts able to make fine judgements about health matters. The MAs have the power to require a report from your GP, or a specialist, on any matter. If they are still not clear about your case, they can ask you to provide more medical opinions.

A medical does not normally expire while a case is being dealt with.

As to the particular details of your health, you'll have to wait and see. People here don't have the medical knowledge, or knowledge of you, to make a sensible comment.

Smile Just to share my experience

    Hi,

We have similar issue that my hubby's triglyceride level is higher than the 'recommended level' in the health report and doctor only advised more exercise and diet control.

After CO assigned, our CO informed that she will need to get Medical Assessor to advise on it during the initial ITA assessment, which might take 4-6 weeks time, and in our case, CO came back on fifth week to arrange for an interview with us( I assume the medical assessor is fine with our report).

As JandM mentioned, I oso don't have medical knowledge, can't really comment on your case, but hope sharing my experience can help to ease ur anxious wait, what we did is control our diet and and do more exercise while waiting for the CO assigned and MA, so we can be ready if the further health assessment required, even if further health assessment is not required, u still get better health by doing so...
