You can do day trips by train from Dunedin station, again great for youngsters many of which have never been on a train these days!
Yep, that is still going - and the main reason why I mentioned it.

Settlers Museum is currently closed for the general public due to major construction works.
Re Taieri Gorge Railway it very much depends on the kids. I have seen both very interested ones but also those who got bored on the return trip.
