Recce trip please advice

Hi All

Planning around Mid November to Mid December , not to mention that X’mas and New Year are round the corner ?
Is it an ideal time for Recruiters / Potential Employers

Will it be worthwhile booking a trip over purely with the purpose of attending interviews/meetings with Agencies /recruiters / potential employers even if you're then returning to where you came ?

My field of expertise is CIVIL ENGINEERING with PG in GIS

Keeping in view the forums vast experience please advice

Hi,
When we went for a recce we went early Nov - be aware that due to summer hols over Xmas pretty much everywhere closes down for the duration. There is also the fact that it is nearing the end of the financial year so may not be loads of active recruiting going on.
When we went in Novemebr we set up a number of meetings etc before we left the UK and it was definately worth it.

When does the financial year start - Jan ? or April/April ?

Hi,
Their financial starts in Apr - same as UK HOWEVER according to my kiwi relatives employers definately start winding down recruiting from Oct onwards (till March). If it was me I would definately advise Nov as opposed to Dec or Jan (you will also find a big difference in air fares).

CCIE_4_NZ_work - how is your recce trip going? any success? any recruitment agencies/companies you recommend applying to? I arrive on Friday for my 1 month recce trip. Have been job hunting everywhere. It's a lot of work i reckon!

Hi there not started yet , i am yet to arrive in NZ , looking at Mid Jan or Feb as i am presently tied up with a few jobs , so would want to hand over the same for our clients.

Since It is a Family business need to be more careful in handing over.
