    Question Living costs in Tauranga

I am sure that this subject has been covered before but can anyone give me an idea of how much I need to earn to give us a reasonable lifestyle?

    Nothing too fancy.

We wont have a car and we are a couple with no children, my OH wont be working.

please could you tell us what bills we need to pay for example is there a council tax?

    Many thanks for any help.

    You will need a car.

its not an option for several reasons in tauranga.

we lived without a car for sevaral years in the uk and i used to commute 25 miles a day by bike but i gave up after 3 weeks in tga.

    rates are included in rents.

The bayhopper bus is ok providing living/working on/near bus route.

Saying that, as soon as I get a job we will get a second car. Car insurance is alot cheaper here and fuel a bit cheaper.

Our electric bill was about £90 last month.

There is no gas. No idea what water rates are as we have not had a bill yet and been renting now for 3 months?! Bonus of renting is no rates (council tax).

We do however hope to buy once settled and both working - and once sale finally goes through in UK!

Seriously you will be fine from what you said about your wages.

The sunshine, the sea and the beautiful beaches and countryside are all free

(you would want a car to see the countryside, its beautiful!)

Speaking of the cost of living, what are the options and prices for broadband intertube connection in Tauranga now? Are there any areas that are better than others in that respect?
