    Summer?

Well last one was not very good really. It was fairly c**p right through until about mid January, and then was mainly good right through until easter. But sounds like it was no worse than the rest of NZ.

Some of the best summer temperatures are in Central Otago about an hour or so's drive from Dunedin. Alexandra for example, is often the hottest place in NZ. Around the coast its a bit more temporate.

Have you checked the city comparisons of weather on this site?

Don't get me wrong, the winter weather here can be antarctic and chill you to the bone. But just as often its stunning!
update on the winter in Dunedin, from our quick visit.... most have heaters outside the resturants or bars so you can still sit outside and watch the world go by or sit inside next to a cosy fire.

Canterbury was buried in snow when we were in Dunedin, but it was sunny, a bit crisp, and yes at night the temperature dropped, but we still enjoyed sitting outside the bars.
