Reading other threads about TVs I understand that to watch TV over there we need PAL. But if we only use it to watch DVDs (and we have a multi system player) is it worth bringing our flat screen?
Thanks !

NZ DVD's won't play in your American DVD player and vice versa.
Most DVD players can be unlocked, though the difficulty in doing this varies by brand/model. If you do a websearch to your model, you should be able to find instructions.
PS: Unlocking a DVD player may void the manufacturer's warranty (and may or may not be illegal).
PPS: The above only applies to DVD players; Blu-Ray players (or more correctly the Blu-Ray portion of Blu-Ray players) are difficult and/or impossible to unlock.
There are also plenty of multi-region DVD players that aren't restricted to US/NZ/Europe etc, which might be what liora is referring to. In which case, your TV will be fine. But be aware of the need for a power down transformer for the TV and bring it with you.
It just so happens to be that these DVD players are the cheap, budget, no-name brands that sell for a lot less than the major brands (which have to comply to DVD zone playback). There are also plenty of multi-region DVD players that aren't restricted to US/NZ/Europe etc,
Not really so. Our Panasonic and Phillips players all came without region restrictions or with instructions supplied to make them so. Hardly 'no-name' brands'
My Sony blu-ray is DVD multiregion, but not Blu Ray. Not a problem as NZ is the same Bluray region as UK.
Note that some DVDs still won't play on a multiregion DVD player, but these are pretty rare.
