    Default Electrician needing advice

    Hi there,
I have just received word that I am invited to apply for a limited certificate to work as an electrician in NZ. Problem is that the application form needs a registered NZ electrician to sign the form and assure that I will work towards meeting the requirements for a license. How can I get a signature when I need the certificate itself to complete the visa application?
Has anyone else had this difficulty or have a solution/advice?
    Thanks!

Hi dave, If I remembered correctly, the EWRB had to recognize my certifications, which they did. After that I got a letter, saying that if I wanted to have an provisional licence, I had to work under an employers registration. I had to do the regulations exams and an practical exams stage 3 for the full licence.

The letter stating that the EWRB recognized my certifications was good enough for the immigration cervice.

    Hoop this will help you.

Thanks for your response. I took a look at your blog and really enjoyed reading about your adventures!
I spoke with an agent at NZ Immigration who suggested a good option is to go to NZ with a Visitor Visa and pursue the training and employment required to fulfill the license requirements while visiting. We are hopeful that we can accomplish our goals and then complete the application for the Skilled Migrant Visa while already in NZ and not have to leave at all.
    Is this wishful thinking perhaps?

It depends on how long it will take to do the training, and how long a visitor's visa you can get, coming from Canada. The Skilled Migrant process involves the most detailed checks on all aspects of your life, so takes quite some time even if it's trouble free. And you can't stay in NZ without a valid visa of some kind. It may be that you'd have to hope to get a job offer which would entitle you to some kind of work visa to bridge the gap, as you're hoping not to have to leave again.

    Hey Dave,

You can do one thing. Just try for a job here, provided that the company can provide you the certificate, so that you can apply for the Visa. When a registered company of NZ absorbs you as an employer, you'll get a temporary visa. Keep continuing with the job, until you complete your license.

    Hi
When I first came over I contacted Nick Chandler who specialises in training electricians from overseas(mainly UK but knows all the ins and outs for some other countries)
Now I never went with him but he gave me a lot of information over email and I am sure he would be able to advise you or put you in touch with someone who can
