Default Check Out Time in Christchurch Airport

    Hi,

We will be arriving Christchurch April 2012 by AirAsia. May I know how long it normally takes to collect the luggage and pass through immigration counter?

Our final destination is Auckland and we need to give ourselves enough time before we check in for another flight to Auckland.

Our arrival time to Christchurch is 2pm. Would 3 hours enough time for us to come out of the plane, collect the luggage, pass through immigration and board an Auckland-bound domestic flight departing 5pm?

We have yet to book the domestic flight from Christchurch to Auckland. Which airline would you recommend?

    Thank you.

I have arrived at Chch airport a few times and each time it has taken no more than 30 minutes. It may have changed since the quakes.

When we landed at about 9.15am we were in the motel in the centre of town by 11am. We went through the residents queue but required all our baggage checked by MAF and x-rayed. I would think 3 hours will be fine.

You should be ok with 3 hours.

Air new Zealand or Jetstar are about the only two flying up to Auckland .

Jetstar would be cheaper option but as you would have already traveled for long hours....try to opt for Air New Zealand .

    Have a safe flight

I collected my parents off a flight into Christchurch last Thursday and it took them about 30-45mins from plane to me, which included collecting bags, MAF inspection on golf shoes and an 'almost' medical emergency (all ok thankfully and MAF/Customs were excellent) which resulted in an escort out into the arrivals hall!

The walk from the international terminal to the domestic terminal is only a few minutes too. (walk out door of international terminal, walk forward and turn right into domestic terminal!)

So, I'd think you'll have plenty of time to transfer.

I arrived in Christchurch a month ago and caught a bus that was only 2 hours after my flight arrival. So I see no problems there. Do keep in mind that flights may be late in arriving (delayed), and air asia does not guarantee anything. But then again, I was flying another low cost airline, and they did get there in time...

you'll be bored, don't worry. Having lived in India and taken hours and hours at various airports, I rate the best airport worldwide from this point of view. I normally try to go via cch than akl.

    Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback. I think we will give ourselves at least 3 hours, taking into consideration we fly AirAsia!

Not its fan but got incredible offer from AirAsia, couldn't resist at all. Otherwise would have taken other airlines directly to Auckland.

We'll fly Air NZ from Christchurch to Auckland. JetStar no baggage allowed!
