    Default status of christchurch rebuild

    Hi,

Anybody here from Christchurch? I browsed through the net and found out that NZ.govt are prioritizing british talents in the rebuild program. I just want to know whether anybody of the forum members are also working for the christchurch program.

    In yesterday's Otago Daily Times:

'The first multilevel property planned for Christchurch's central-city red zone since the earthquakes is in doubt because of insurance problems.'

There a few "Old Forumites" in the building trade out here but have no idea if their on the rebuild yet or not. Both ex-pats.

Following on from Ralf's link, I've only seen one rebuild on a site that was hit by the Sept quake, that's not to say there aren't others.

Three of my customers have had their houses repaired but another one is still waiting to be seen by EQC.

Plenty of new house building going on in Rangiora and Pegasus

Now I have found it - another article a little less than three weeks ago in our ODT:

'Immigration New Zealand issued visas to 71 foreign nationals between June 1 and October 31 ... for work associated with the rebuild.'

Thanks ralf-nz and benandclare for the information... i for one agree of the insurance delimma... either you risk without it or you have to wait until they are convinced. Which at this time both are unlikely to happen. Insurers though you may seem to think that they would payout a lot for you but they only do when they have the upperhand. Building is business so do with the insurance.
