    Anyone know where to get an uncooked ham in Christchurch?

    I'm totally perplexed with the kiwi ham thing at Xmas. there's even "hambags" to keep your ham in!

    yep I have a huge thing in the freezer courtesy of OH's employers, not a clue what to do with it lol. It definitely won't fit on the bbq and I don't have a pan big enough to boil it in, so I'm thinking roast?

    tbh, I'm not sure how it's it cooked.. I guess you'd boil it like evil corned beef?

    Ham is bacon that is boiled or baked , are you after a pig thigh?

    In Canada, uncooked ham is often called 'smoked shoulder ham'. The pig is smoked and cured in a solution but not cooked. But uncooked ham is just simply - pork you buy off the shelf, so the original poster can clarify.

    We buy a gammon, then soak overnight, pour water away, then boil in clean water for a couple of hours, allow to cool and Bob's your uncle

    I pretty much do the same but put an onion studded with cloves to the water, a few bay leaves and whole peppercorns as well mmmm....
