Just heard about the latest quake - watching events unfold.
Hope all in that area are OK and safe.

Oh, all very best wishes from me, too. (((())))
******* hell. Utter terror, didn't experience the earlier quakes, on the 5th floor, it moved, now seriously plotting escape from Christchurch. I like it here, but I can't be doing with what happened today, no family here or anything, so why stay? Not sure I'll ever be entering my office again!
Kia kaha hombres. I can't imagine what it's like. I really hope your Xmas is settled and cool
Just read this morning .... I am flying to Christchurch in 9 days, I'm I really wise .... I thought the quakes were getting lesser and dying down. My family are in utter panic about me going now!
They WERE getting lesser, virtually nothing since mid Oct, bar some very small jolts. Today has come out of the blue. Still, I guess everything which could fall down, has fallen down. So all you're left with is the horror at the power of the things, but despite me wanting out, no reason not to visit...
Wishing everyone in Christchurch safety and peace over Christmas and in 2012.
Maori phrase known to all Kiwis: Be strong. This is NOT going under the 'English' rule.Kia kaha
Rocked awake again this morning.
The holiday did start in amazing fashion, after diving under the desk twice yesterday, between meeting filing deadlines and organising last minute things for work.
Luckily we have not lost power though the water main is being repaired this morning. I think our cut offs are set at quite a high level of movement out here.
We are indeed Rockin' around the Christmas Tree.
Have heard from Peebles16 and Sophiedb, both ok.
Kia Kaha Christchurch (yep breaching the site rules, but J&M has translated and this phrase has fairly significant meaning for those of us here)
how do - all good here on the SW side of town, and overseas visitors are getting used to their excellent introduction to internal seismography (also known as placing bets on magnitude and direction of epicentre).
We were returning from a lovely holiday in Queenstown when the first one came: hubby, lil bro, SiL and I sitting down for a coffee at Salmon World in Rakaia of all places (land of the giant plastic salmon - who wouldn't give their right arm to see it wobble?). It was a decent tremor even there, as was the second. My parents in Qtwn were taxiing down the runway, ready to take the shortcut to Chch, and ended up stuck at the airport until 6pm.
Finished coffee and headed off on the road home, checked chooks, garden, house (in that order) just in time for the 6.0 - lurvely... Realised that this was a fantastic time to be just home from hols, with no milk etc in the fridge and New World shut for clean-up. All good though, we are now nicely restocked and pretty much ready for Crimbo, though my emergency food stores - raided for the self-catering holiday - will be re-stocked today with enough for 7 mouths.. just in case...
Picked the air travellers up from a manic Chch airport at 7.30pm, had a lengthy dinner with intermittent Facebooking and calls to the UK and France. Gave our room to lil bro and SiL (they were going to be on air beds in the living room, but we figured a nice mattress was the least we could do! shame SiL turned out to be allergic to the duvet..). Woke up at 6.37am precisely to see the Xmas tree wobbling above us in honour of a 5.1.
Eeeeeeexcellent. Merry Festivus, one and all
