    Arrow Breaking the law

Coming from the UK I have the idea that kiwiland will have the same laws. But I don’t want to start off on the wrong side of the law. Iis there anything I should lookout for. Have you been caught out by any differences in the laws.?

Here the official road code: http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/

Considering what some of our fellow forumites wrote you might better not deem that NZ and UK have the same legislation!

Whilst many of the laws are similar, there are differences, see http://www.legislation.govt.nz/ for details.

I know that this topic has been discussed on the forum before so a search may get you more information, one item I recall is 'cutting corners' whilst driving - not sure if this is actually really different from the UK but they do look out for it here.

Sorry, it's another driving related one, but the biggest difference I find is remembering to hame my license on me at all times. Normally not too bad as it's in my wallet, but it's when I've been out for a run, or am just nipping out to pick something up. Also the 6 monthly WOF/MOT's instead of annually.

Taxes are different and there's a much greater likelihood you'll need to submit a tax return (online is available).

Just to clarify this a bit further, you need a WOF every 12 months whilst the vehicle is less than 6 years old even if the car is brand new. It changes to every 6 months after the car is older than 6 years.

What's a WOF MOT? Some kind of inspection? What's it stand for?

In the states, Motts is applesauce.

another driving one - its probably in one of those links you've been given - you must park parallel with the roadway (I got a ticket for this within a month of being here)
