Default Really worried about my medical :(

OH's prospective employers are starting to get a little bit impatient with the length of time it's taking to get our visas. They have asked if we can find out if OH's part of the application can be processed in advance, seeing as he was planning on going over there before the rest of us anyway. But this can't happen, can it, without putting in an application for a temporary work visa? More money and very risky, given the reasons below.

It's my medical referral which is holding things up. I have a very rare muscle condition, and it's possible the MAs won't ever have heard of it, never mind be familiar with. I've never needed hospital treatment for it and I have a letter from of of the top specialists in the condition in the world (!) stating that in her opinion it is very unlikely I will ever need significant medical treatment. According to her, I have a very mild version of the condition, I am very knowledgeable about it and manage the condition very well.

However, and this is the big difficulty, the absolute worst case scenario for the condition is something which would cause muscle breakdown leading to kidney damage, and therefore dialysis - albeit short term, over a couple of weeks max. If the MA doesn't pass my medical for that (very unlikely) possibility, then there's no way I could ever get a medical waiver either, is there? Seeing as dialysis is the top reason for denying a waiver ... By the way, my father has the same condition and at 84 has never needed any sort of treatment for it!

I know there's nothing to do but wait, but I just needed to vent a little

You're quite right, and there's nothing you can do immediately to sort this out. Just wait, prepared to argue and go back over it as necessary, and meantime, breathe...

You're also right that you can't have a 'him only' visa without applying for a temporary work visa.

    Thanks

The main decision we have to make now is whether to go for a temporary work visa straight away, or leave it a couple of weeks in the hope that we get an answer one way or another from the MA. I know 2 weeks is not long in the grand scheme of things but as the employer is now getting anxious, we might need to move on it now. Of course the law of sod will mean that we could get a go ahead for the SMC after we've paid the extra for a temp working visa. But if I thought that would definitely happen, it would be worth the extra money

    Hi RejjieM,

I can see this thread of yours being quite old. But I am in sort of a similar situation, I am having this muscle weakness problem as well.

I posted some brief description of what in my below new thread:

If you happen to see it and got sometime I will appreciate if you can help me with your knowledge and experience there.

    Cheers!
