    Hello and welcome.

I expect you'll hear from some people with experience later on when NZ wakes up.

Well, Im not a civil engineer, I´m a Communication Specialist (digital media, marketing etc) and I have the silver fern visa. It´s been already 6 months and its getting hard and hard.

80% of recruitment agencies made me lose time. I´ve had 7 interviews in 6 months (still waiting the results for the last two.. kiwis take time to decide... sometimes weeks).

But it´s all about your profession. Mine is very competitive: everytime I apply, around 150 others do the same. Usually they send me answers like this:

"There were more than 100 applications lodged in two weeks so it has proved a very popular position", which makes me so sooo happy to hear.

    My suggestions are:

    - if you can avoid auckland, I´m sure you will have more opportunities. (I cannot, 95% of the roles for my profession are here... although I´m trying with the other 5% anyway).

    - But if you are coming to auckland, and you are planning to stay in NZ as a resident, find OMEGA (http://www.omega.org.nz/) an excellent group who help skilled migrant, such as silver fern ones. (free)

    - Assist to the ARMS http://www.arms-mrc.org.nz/Schedule.aspx workshops as soon as you can. (Free)

The rest I cannot say much, because the whole reality falls on your profession and how needed it is. A horse breeder have 250% more chances to get a job than me. No matter how many studies do you have.

I´m still struggling and I have only 3 more months remaining.

The thing is that even doing all what I can (like a website promoting myself: www.jimmartin.co.nz or a digital presentation for the interview, or business ideas to improve the company´s sales) ... it isnt enough. And I dont know why!

Thats my case, and I know many similar ones with this industry (graphic designer who needed 10 months to get a job, communication specialist with master who surrendered after 7 months without any interview.

Jim: So sorry to hear about your tough luck. Took a look at your website and it is very well designed! I hope things look up for you now after summer is over and there's more turnover.
