Default Smoking and chances of passing chest x-ray

I've been smoking 20-a-day for 18 years, does anybody know of any smokers who have passed the chest x-ray. I am assuming that if you fail the x-ray then other character and job offer requirements are negligable??

Yes, I do; with a 'similar history' as yours and no issues whatsoever.

From what I remember you are asked to do a 'blow test' if you're pack score is over 10 to determine lung capacity
    Pack score is number of packs(20) X years smoked(18) = 18
Although if your memory is mistaken & you only smoked 10pd = 9 > no worries
As Victoria said they are looking for TB but at least you get a proper check up
Might as well give up anyway, a report in the NZ Herald said they were planning to make the country to totally non- smoking within 10 years

I'm on and off champix (which I purchased myself lol), but they really have an effect on your emotions, like trying to climb in wardrobes and shouting in your sleep. To be honest the past 10 years have been "not perfect times" with working on pricework as a bricklayer and finding my next job on a 1 year cycle, studying, not finding a graduate job but the prospect of NZ is having a postitive effect. I dont have to argue with myself about how much I smoke, its sunk into my subconscious and I simply think dont do it. I've cut down by half or 2 or3/day when I'm on the angry pills.
    Thanks

So can I pick your brains a bit more ?
With regard the medical, do you need accurate dates of when you have seen the doctor or visited hospital??
Will the panel doctor request your medical notes ??
Also what type of questions and checks will the panel doctor generally do- listen to your chest and/or heart; BMI; etc

    Thanks for your help

None of this is secret. Here's the handbook for medical examiners, so you can see exactly what will be investigated, and what they are required to find out about. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rd...lExaminers.pdf You will need approximate dates for any hospital treatment you have had, but no, they can't request your actual notes. If any aspect of your medical shows up as beyond the normal limits, then your case will be referred to the Medical Assessor by the INZ CO, and the MA can ask for further tests or examinations to be carried out, and/or reports from your GP or an appropriate specialist.

i remember going quite mental on zyban a few years ago!

ive smoked a pack a day for all of my adult life and had no issues or concerns about the chest xrays. the irony is, BMI causes more aggro for the medicals than smoking. i think in the current economic climate, countries would be more than happy to accept someone that contributes more tax dollars lol
