    Default In the gun

    I've seen the expression 'in the gun' used quite a bit in the NZ news but I'm not totally sure what it means. Tried Googling it but it's not come up with anything, or rather it comes up with lots of stuff that is totally irrelevant.
    Contextually I think it might be similar to 'in the sights' but would appreciate it if anyone could help out.

    OH (who's a Kiwi) says if you are 'in the gun', you are in trouble - well, that's the succinct version of the discussion we just had.

    I haven't come across this phrase in all my time here: Nearly six years in Otago - and partially in other regions.

    Ditto. I've never heard that phrase used in nearly ten years.

    That's one phrase I haven't heard in 4 years.... unlike "She'll be right, mate".. :-}

    The Herald uses it in headlines, I'm guessing the sub editors like it because it's short.

    My hubby (a kiwi) hasn't heard of it but he asked two people at work, independently (because that's the scientific way to do it ) and they both said, "You're in trouble." So, I guess along with Lin's hubby that gives you three sources and you can call it official.
