Question Need help in calculating points.

Please look into my information below, to calculate the points:

    Profession: Software Tester
    Years of Experience: 8+ years

    Qualification: Bachelor of Engineering
    Specialization: Electronics and Communications Engineering
My University and Degree are present in the NZQA website. Fortunately I earned my degree in the same year from when NZQA is accepting that univ degrees.

    Age: 32

My occupation is listed in LTSSL as given below:
Occupational Group: ICT, Electronics and Telecommunications

Occupation: Software Tester (261314) (present in LTSSL)

    Qualifications mentioned for this Occupation:
Bachelor degree (Level 7) specialising in Information Technology (Computer Science, Information Systems or other Information Technology) OR Bachelor degree (Level 7) specialising in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Technology.
Unfortunately my specialization is not in this list given in LTSSL. This is where I have lot of doubts. Can I claim points for my work experience, can I claim points for qualification, can I claim bonus points for work experience as it is in LTSSL list, can i claim bonus points for Qualification, as it is in NZQA list.

Spouse Qualification: Postgraduation and her univ and degree in NZQA website.

Based on the information above, appreciate if anyone can tell me how many points can i claim.

FYI: I am from India, and all my work experience and qualifications are obtained in India.

Please let me know if you need any further information.

    Thanks
    Ravi

    Points: 125 + 20 (spouse)

Your occupation is listed there, as long as your work experience matches your duties you can claim points (and bonus points) for work experience and same for qualification (since you have level 7 qualification which is required).

Hi Riz, thanks for your qucik reply.
Can you please confirm if the below are the details which add up to my 125 points?

    Age: 25
    Work Exp: 25
Bonus point for work experience is in an identified future growth: 15
Bonus point for work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage: 15

    Qualification: 50
Bonus point for qualification in an identified future growth: 0
Bonus point for qualification in an area of absolute skills shortage: 0
    Partner holds a level 7+ qualification: 20

The total I am getting is 130+20. Please let me know where did I calculate wrong.

Another doubt I have is, since I don't have any work experience in NewZealand, can I claim bonus points for my work experience which is in an identified future growth area and also in an area of absolute skills shortage, which are highlighted in BOLD above.

    Hi Tester,

My application status is: ITA submitted, Dec 2011, waiting for assign CO
My findings are as follows (according to my case):
you cannot claim points "Bonus point for work experience is in an identified future growth: 15" bcoz it'll be allocated if you are working in NZ
but you can claim points "Bonus point for qualification in an area of absolute skills shortage: 10"
rest of other claim points are same as mine (my field is also same as urs)

    regards
    FAISAL

That is in deed a very quick reply which I never expected. Thanks Faisal.

So, you mean to say that I can claim bonus points for "QUALIFICATION in an area of Absolute skills shortage" for my Bachelors of Engineering degree with specialization in Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) degree?

Appreaciate if you can give me link to ImmigrationNZ website where I can find ECE specialization under Absolute skills shortage list.

If I can claim bonus points for that, then please let me know if I can claim points for "QUALIFICATION in an area of an identified future growth"?

You would not get bonus points for identified future growth since this requires job or job offer in New Zealand. You can run points calculator on IMM NZ website again.

    Thanks Riz.
So, finally the understanding is unless we worked or studied in NZ, we can't claim bonus points for "Identified future growth area".
However, we can claim bonus points for "Absolute skills shortage" even if we have studied or worked outside NZ.

Correct me if I am wrong.

    Thanks again.

Should either be in employment in NZ or have offer of employment in NZ.

YES but condition is one of your qualification (bachelors/masters) should be equivalent to NZ level 7 or assessed at level 7. (no to level 8 or 6, preciselt level 7 required).

Correct me if I am wrong.

    Thanks again.
