Sigh. That's such a shame. It was so civilized. Slow but civilized. I could have applied through this stream and was thinking of doing so. Going to concentrate the mind wonderfully now on the skilled migrant application. My thoughts are ith those 1) scrabbling to apply 2) who have this window cut off from them. I knew it was in he works but not much time to act.

Thanks for this. I think that the changes to the Parent category, in particular, are going to knock holes in a lot of people's plans, although those who have already applied are 'safe'.

This underlines the fact that nobody can rely on things staying as they are in the INZ world for ever - thinking of those who haven't got round to putting in for Residence, because they're thinking, 'Oh, I can always renew my Work Visa.'

Is your son likely to be able to get a Work Visa one of these days, Ralf?

Currently he is not contemplating coming here. But who knows?
Given his profession I doubt that it will be likely for him to come on a work visa.

Things never stay still for long in Immigration law, in any country. It's too big a money earner, and too easy to turn into a campaign issue - or blame in an economic crisis.

I'm fairly sure that if my parents ever decide to come here, they'll have enough for the "fast" option, but would be very irritated about it. That said, I doubt it's much fun trying to get a parent into the UK these days (never checked though).

My brother and SiL would probably be able to get here o their own merits, but show no sign of wanting too so I shall not be holding my breath. Even if they did, it'd be Auckland for them *shudder*

We are 5 weeks away from the 3 years needed to sponsor our sons.
They are devastated, actually we all are.

So sorry to hear this. Do they have a Plan B?

Thanks for posting the links to the changes. I wasn't aware that they were changing the parent category rules and we've all been filling in the forms ready to lodge them in June. Looks like we are going to have to rethink our plan of action...
