    Default Rental cars for visitors

I live in Waikato and my Mum arrives for a month Nov-Dec. Looking for a rental car for her from time to time for Taupo, and other trips when I cannot take off. She is looking for Auto and she is 70. Any local suggestions? Also do you know if you have 'open insurance' here so anyone can drive your car (with permission) or do you have yo name a driver and add them onn???

    Thanks.

No idea about Waikato rental places, but on our car insurance (AA) you can let anyone drive your car as long as they're over 21 I think?

I think most insurers over here allow anyone over 25 to drive your car. It's not named drivers like in the UK or US. I'm with AMI and they do the same as the AA (mentioned by Moomette). Always worth ringing to check but she should be OK to drive your car.

Great thanks! I have AMI but I will call them to confirm.

When my parents were here last year, I rang my insurance co (AA) & added them on to my policy - no charge but policy excess was increased for both of them.
