    Default city and guilds

    Hi everyone,
We are not regular writers but we are regular readers! and fortunately up until now we have found all the information we have needed off the forum without really having to ask any questions.
Anyway we are now at the stage where we are filling in our ITA's, we decided to apply seperately as it is easier than proving your a couple that aren't married!
What i would like to ask is, i did my city and guilds 15 years ago and apparently they don't need to be verified if they were done at a place on their recognised list, but all i can find is universitys. I did mechanics so these were done at a college. Has anyone else been in this situation? Also the ITA says my apprenticeship has to be with a recognised body! Well as far as i'm aware you do your apprenticeship with a firm who send you to college to gain the necessary qualifications.
Can anyone give me any advice on the best way forward?
    thank you
    Paul.

    Hello Paul,
From my experience when it comes to submitting the ITA, as long as you have original certs' from C & G you should have no bother. Is your proffession on the list for skills wanted? Generally speaking, if you've done a full apprenticeship and have the C & G doc's to prove it, it should be pretty much plain sailing mate.
What trade are you in ? Curious!!!!!!!!!

    Hi John,
thanks for the reply, i'm not actually in the trade anymore but i have city and guilds levels 1 to 3 and a BTEC ONC in vehicle mechanics specialising in diesel and heavy vehicles. My apprenticeship was done with a bus company called West Midlands Travel, and i do have the original copy of the apprenticeship agreement signed by myself, my Dad and the company CEO in the presence of a solicitor!
I did contact the bus company today and they told me they could verify how long i had worked there from payroll but that was it, i left in1993 and they don't keep information that long anymore. So i'm hoping NZIS will accept the information i have and that city and guilds can verify my certificates.

    Hello Paul & Helen

We have put a couple of threads re City & Guilds recently.

Keith did his 10 years ago and we sent everything with our ITA, which was fine, we got approval in principal based on getting written confirmation from the NZQA of his qualification, which is a D34 equivalent to NVQ4 in Teacher Training.

We obtained electronic verification from the NZQA prior to sending in our ITA and have had to send them in for written confirmation.

This has proved to be a nightmare, NZQA want confirmation from City & Guilds that when we sent was the original cert (which is def was) City & Guilds we very reluctant to put in writing that this was equivalent to a NVQ4 (but have finally done so) and we are waiting on NZQA to come back to us with their approval (hopefully!!)

If your certificate is clearly the original, stating that it is the specific qualification then I don't think you should have any problems.

    Good Luck

    Hi Keith and Debby,
Thanks for the reply, funnily enough i did read your thread after i started this one. I don't think anything is cut and dried, some people seem to sail through and others seem to have hell of a game!!
I have come to the conclusion that its the luck of the draw, i am just going to submit everything i have and see what happens, just try and deal with what gets thrown back!
Anyway, good luck for the future.
    Paul.
