    Default NZ engagement customs

We have just received an invitation for an engagement celebration here. We are kind of at a loss, what are the NZ customs on such occasions. ( Additional note: The couple are in its forties.)

The safe answer is to bring a plate and a bottle.

Can't think of any particular customs. My guess would be that it'll be like a birthday party, except celebrating an engagement?

A bar? Well, you could still donate a bottle for the couple to share later.

I have played at 2 engagement parties here and both times presents were given by all arriving and left on a table. On both occasions food was provided so no one bought a plate.

I'm intrigued to hear people still have engagement parties!
