Everyone okay?
Everyone okay?
Hadn't heard about that here in the UK. Hope you're all safe and not too upset.
just checked the news, nothing about it yet
Now they are mentioning it. Strange why they took so long
Geonet have mentioned it before under recent earthquakes www.geonet.org.nz
Reference Number: 3732830
NZST: Tue, Jul 3 2012 10:36 pm
Magnitude: 7.0
Depth: 230 km
Details: 60 km south of Opunake
However originating that deep there should not be too many issues.
ODT don't have it in their news yet though.

I have some friends in Palmerston North who were totally freaked out about it!!! Must be very frightening to experience - hope everyone concerned is safe and well!!
It was very widely felt, all over Marlborough and the Nelson area, and down to Christchurch, Dunedin, the West Coast.
For us it was the first time in this house that we did feel an earthquake (there was another one last year, but we haven't been at home at that time), we were almost asleep and woke up with a start. I thought it was a scary experience, it went on for a while and, according to our son who was sitting in another room next to the cupboard with plates etc., everything rattled. We fixed all bigger wardrobes and shelves to the wall, and nothing fell off the walls or shelves.
I take my hat off everyone in Christchurch who has/ had to deal with that on a daily basis!
My mum just landed in Welly to spend time with the family (and impending arrival of grandchild no 2). What a welcome.....a bit of a shock for her.
Yup, we felt it here in Chch. I didn't know till we saw the news this morning that it was off Taranaki though!!
It was huge and seemed to last forever - it was about 30 seconds which doesn't sound that long but it is when you're riding it out. We knew it was a biggie as we rarely feel them in our house but this time it felt like the house was doing a hula hoop! I just sat there frozen but started to wonder if it was going to get worse and whether we should start moving to safety.
I admit my first thought was that I was hoping it wasn't the tail end of a Chch aftershock! Hats off to you in Chch. Living through that kind of thing on a regular basis must be frightening.
